This was SERVO's first year in existance. SERVO was hosted by South Forsyth High School, in Cumming,Georgia. We are just up GA. 400, North of Alpharetta @ Exit 13. SERVO is a workshop where high school students, whether public, private, or home schooled, can get together for a day of robotic competition, cooperation, and community. Servo is an open invitational to all interested in robotics, where the robots are created using VEX robotic kits.

Souvenir T-Shirts were available at a cost of $6.00 each.

Servo was held in the South Forsyth High School Gym. There was a accident on 400 and you and your team has been contacted by 400 Waste Management Corporation. Radioactive debris is strewn across the highway and you need to build a robot to clean it up because the radiation levels are tremendous.

The basic rules were as follows: The tasks range from turning off the generator before it explodes, to retrieving the nuclear rods and placing them in a safe location. The rounds are each three minute long and scoring is compiled.

No more than 5 motors/servos of any combination may be used per team. All VEX accessories are eligible for use. No Non-Vex parts are not allowed for use. There is no size limitation; however the robot does need to maneuver around various obstacles (debris from the wreck, bumpers, barrels, tires, etc.

The nuclear rods are among the chief concern. There are twelve within the arena. Some are red and some are yellow. Red indicates the rod has been damaged, and is more likely to leak dangerous radiation, thus worth more points than the yellow rods. After the robot retrieves the rods, it then must deposit them in a lead-lined brief case. The case must be filled solely by the robot. If the casebs lid is shut before the end of the match all the nuclear rods in the case are worth double. A spotter may place the case on the field of play bpre-openedb at the beginning of each round before the driver steps on the platform.

The generator is still running after the accident. The robot will need to shut the generator off by throwing a bkillb switch located on one side of the generator.

The HazMat radiation suit for the "spotter" is optional, however if the team does create one, and it isbe worn by the spotter, additional points are accumulated. The HazMat suit can be made of any materials and will be judged for creativity.
